BRITISH AND COMMONWEALTH REMEMBRANCE PROJECT - USA
Remembering the service and sacrifice made by British and Commonwealth service personnel in times of war
During the 2025 annual poppy drive volunteers from the project visted and placed poppies on over 900 British and Commonwealth graves across the whole of the United States.
The project which started in New England is now truly a nationwide effort.

ABOUT
The British and Commonwealth Remembrance Project was initiated in 2020 by James Normington, MBE, a former Royal Air Force Reserve officer who has lived in Massachusetts for the past 15 years. The project quickly grew from a personal commitment by James and his family into a community endeavor. British, Canadian, Australian and American volunteers aged from 3yrs to 80+ came forward to join in the project of remembrance. The opportunity to make the project into something lasting became apparent and a 501(c)(3) non profit was founded and a formal partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission was established.
Our volunteers now fall into three groups: those who perform research untangling the histories of the fallen and where they lie; those who take on the hands on work of visiting and tidying graves; and our dedicated fundraisers who seek to raise the funds to keep the project viable.
We are entirely self funded by public donations and do not receive grants from state or federal government. Our annual Remembrance Day appeal costs approximately $6,500 and each memorial we erect costs an average of $3,000.
The objectives of the project are as follows:
-
To bring together the British and Commonwealth Community in the United States around the concept of remembrance.
-
To create lasting memorials to mark the sacrifice of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women.
-
To educate future generations about the concepts of sacrifice, service and remembrances.
