ABOUT

The British and Commonwealth Remembrance Project was initiated in 2020 by James Normington, a former Royal Air Force Reserve officer who has lived in Massachusetts for the past 15 years. The project quickly grew from a personal commitment by James and his family into a community endeavor. British, Canadian, Australian and American volunteers aged from 3yrs to 80+ came forward to join in the project of remembrance. The opportunity to make the project into something lasting became apparent and a 501(c)(3) non profit was founded and a formal partnership with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission was established.

Our volunteers now fall into three groups: those who perform research untangling the histories of the fallen and were they lie, those who take on the hands on work of visit and tidy graves and our dedicated fundraisers who seek to raise the funds to keep the project viable.

We are entirely self funded by public donations and do not received grants from state or federal government. Our annual Poppy drive alone costs over $2,000 and every memorial we erect costs an average of $3,000.

The objectives of the project are as follows:

  1. to bring together the British and Commonwealth Community in New England around the concept of remembrance.

  2. to create lasting memorials to mark the sacrifice of British and Commonwealth servicemen and women.

  3. to educate future generations about the concepts of sacrifice, service and remembrances.
